Tax Bills Slightly Delayed
With the implementation of Session Law 2026-8, Onslow County staff are working to revert the assessments from the County's 2026 Schedule of Values back to the 2022 Schedule of Values. Personal property bills should be mailed by the last week of August and real estate notices may not be sent until early September.
A short delay in mailing tax bills is necessary to ensure the accuracy of critical items in the billing file before it is finalized and mailed. Tax bills may arrive later than property owners are accustomed to but they are due September 1, 2026 and do not become delinquent unless they remain unpaid after January 5, 2027.
Session Law 2026-8 presented a technical challenge because property tax software is designed to move forward from one reappraisal cycle to the next. That has required significant programming and extensive quality assurance by Tax Office staff.
